Emergency Overview

Toxic corrosive liquid, contact with eyes may cause severe irritation; prolonged contact with skin may cause severe irritation. Ingestion may cause gastric distress. Harmful if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin. Inhalation and skin contact may cause sensitization, extremely harmful to mucous membranes and respiratory tract. Potential Health Effects

INHALATION: Inhalation of mists or vapors may cause irritation to upper respiratory tract and mucous membranes. Repeated exposure can cause asthma, associated with chest tightness, shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing.

SKIN: Skin sensitizer, contact with the skin will cause severe irritation and pain. Repeated and / or prolonged contact with the skin may cause allergic reaction and / or sensitization.

EYES: This product is an eye irritant. Direct contact with liquid severely irritates the eyes and can cause permanent eye damage.

INGESTION: Toxic by ingestion. May cause gastric distress, vomiting and diarrhea.

Skin: Remove contaminated clothing; wash affected area with soap and water; launder contaminated clothing before reuse; if irritation persists, seek medical attention.

Eyes: Check for and remove contact lenses. Flush eyes with clear running water for 15 minutes while holding eyelids open; seek immediate medical attention.

Ingestion: Give two glasses of water for dilution; Do not induce vomiting; never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person; seek immediate medical attention.

STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED Confine and absorb into approved absorbent; place material into approved containers for disposal; for spills in excess of allowable limits (RQ) notify the National Response Center (800) 424 - 8802; refer to CERCLA 40 CFR 302 for detailed instructions; refer to SARA Title III, Section 313, 40 CFR 372 for reporting requirements. Do not discharge into lakes, ponds, streams or public waters.

 

 

PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE: Keep container closed when not in use; protect containers from abuse; protect from extreme temperatures. Keep this and other chemicals out of reach of children. Avoid inhaling concentrated fumes or vapors. Engineering Controls:    

The use of local exhaust ventilation is required to control emissions near the source. Provide mechanical ventilation of confined spaces. See Section 2 for Component Exposure Guidelines.

Based on the chemical composition of this product it is assumed that the mixture can be treated in an acclimatized biological waste treatment plant system in limited quantities. However, such treatment should be evaluated and approved for each specific biological system. Formaldehyde, one of the ingredients in this mixture is classified as a Marine Pollutant.
